Forensic Archaeologist, Western Balkans Program, L5

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is the only international organization tasked exclusively to work on the issue of missing persons. It works with governments and other stakeholders, including families of the missing, to help them develop and maintain successful missing persons processes. To learn more about ICMP click here.

Reporting to the Forensic Coordinator, the Forensic Archaeologist’s duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Develops archaeological best practice;
  • Undertakes desktop assessment and analysis and assist in the provision of ICMP archaeological field support;
  • Coordinates with ICMP support staff and national authorities and agencies regarding desktop analysis, site assessment, and excavations;
  • Provides ICMP technical assistance to national authorities involved at excavations through implementation of standards for archaeological assessment and excavation;
  • Provides ICMP technical assistance to national authorities involved at examinations through implementation of standards for anthropological assessment, when requested;
  • Other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education in Forensic Archaeology, Anthropology or related forensic discipline
  • Five years of relevant professional experience
  • Hands on experience in employing forensic archeological skills at excavations of human remains;
  • Experience in use of Total Station or similar survey equipment is an advantage.
  • Demonstrable ability to analyze artefacts and information, and experience in drafting excavation reports.
  • Proven photography and draughtsman skills.
  • Experience in forensic examination of human remains or proven high capability in identification of human remains.
  • Basic knowledge and some experience in human anthropology and human osteology; solid experience will be considered as an advantage.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of specialist software such as Adobe Illustrator, CAD and GIS is an advantage;

Additional requirements:

  • Legally entitled to work in BiH;
  • Professional fluency in English and BCS; knowledge of Albanian is an asset;
  • Full driving license for manual transmission vehicles is essential;
  • Ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality, religion or gender;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Power Point;
  • Capacity and willingness to work in sometimes challenging circumstances;
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary.

This is a full time position with a competitive base salary at the L5 level on the ICMP WB salary scale, generous paid leave and extensive health insurance benefits for the incumbent and any eligible dependent.

This is a locally engaged position and is not entitled to the expatriate allowances.
