Go Styria is a scholarship scheme for outstanding students from South-Eastern Europe, supported by funding from the Province of Styria. The scheme awards grants for research mobility periods at the University of Graz by master’s students, doctoral students and post-docs from South-Eastern Europe.

The current open call is for stays in the academic year 2022/23.

Prerequisites for master’s and doctoral students

You can apply for the Go Styria scholarship programme if:

  • you are a student at a university in South-Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey) and will still be registered there in the academic year 2022/23,
  • you are already working on your master’s or doctoral thesis,
  • you would like to conduct research as an exchange student at the University of Graz, with the intention of completing your degree afterwards at your home university.

Please note: If you are selected for the Go Styria scholarship programme you will NOT be eligible for any other scholarship grant for the same mobility period/semester at the University of Graz (e.g. Erasmus+, Erasmus+ International, CEEPUS…).

Prerequisites for post-doctoral researchers

You can apply for the Go Styria scholarship programme if:

  • you hold an academic position at a university in South-Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey),
  • you have completed your doctorate with very good results before the beginning of your scholarship period. Your doctorate should have been completed not more than one year prior to the date of your application.

Important notes:

  • The planned research project should be agreed with the potential supervisor
  • A post-doc mobility period cannot be funded if you completed your doctorate at the University of Graz

Please note: If you are selected for the Go Styria scholarship programme you will NOT be eligible for any other grant funding for the same mobility period/semester at the University of Graz (e.g. Erasmus+, Erasmus+ International, CEEPUS…).

Selection process

Eligible applications will be subject to academic evaluation after the submission deadline. A selection meeting will then be held at which the best candidates for the scholarship programme will be selected. High academic standards are a deciding factor for successful applications.

Selected master’s and doctoral students will be registered as exchange students.

Scholarship grant

  • Master’s and doctoral students: 600 euros per month and exemption from tuition fees at the University of Graz
  • Post-docs: 900 euros per month

The scholarship is available for a maximum of 4 months, shorter mobility periods are possible.

Scholarship holders need to open an Austrian bank account to receive grant payments (unless the mobility period is only for one month) and upload account details to the online application system, together with a copy of their residence registration form (Meldebestätigung).
