Job Title: Education Officer (full-time temporary)

Dogs Trust is a world-renowned UK-based animal welfare charity which specializes in the well-being of dogs. A multi-year project in Bosnia-Herzegovina, officially launched in October of 2012, works closely with local stakeholders in establishing a self-sustainable dog population
management system through several different local and national programmes. 
The Education programme within Dogs Trust aims to educate children and the wider community by increasing knowledge and introducing key values to change attitudes about dog ownership and overall canine welfare. All educational interventions are strategically linked to the overall Dogs Trust mission. Working with a variety of audiences, we also aim to ensure that both children and adults know how to behave safely around dogs, both in the home and out and about in the community. Our programme is available all year round, in elementary schools while during school
breaks, we work with kindergarteners, sport clubs, summer camps and various types of community engagement.
Job Summary: 
Reporting to the Head of the Education Department will deliver workshops to children and youth in primary schools and other community-based events on the following topics: safety around dogs, responsible dog ownership, benefits of dogs, and the like. It is obligatory for Education Officers to be qualified teachers. Education Officers are required to work normal working hours, with some flexibility to accommodate schools and to travel throughout Sarajevo Canton, occasionally with overnight stays to other parts of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and abroad, including visits to DTUK Education Department.
Good knowledge of the English language is obligatory as well as clean driving licence (manual stick shift).
Job Description 
To develop as well as confidently and passionately deliver approved educational workshops which support our wider aims to our target audiences, primarily 7-11 years old school children.
This should be achieved through:  
  •  a broad range of interactive activities including discussions, role play and group work. 
  • creation of high-quality approved resources.
  • ‘Team Teach’ either in school, training or in a presentation when the need arises. 
Manage a network of schools, developing a working relationship with them, within a geographical region, including establishing and developing relationships to promote our programme:
  • marketing and promotion of workshops 
  • workshop booking confirmations and post-visit communication. 
Effectively communicate with the Education Team in Sarajevo, and other Dogs Trust Foundation departments to report on progress and develop cooperation. This includes but is not limited to meetings, weekly and monthly reports and other updates as requested.
Any other duties as assigned. 
The applicant should possess the following experience, qualities, and qualifications: 
  • Teaching qualification (university degree) 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in creating and implementing lesson plans with identifiable learning outcomes
  • State exam 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of behaviour management within a classroom setting 
  • Excellent written both English and Bosnian (Latin and Cyrillic), proof-reading, copywriting skills, and development of materials.
  • Experience in developing good working relations with colleagues at all levels and the ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Genuine interest in dog welfare and passion for animal-welfare related behaviour change 
  • Highly organised and able to self-manage without supervision 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Experience in the teamwork 
  • Organised, systematic and able to manage competing priorities effectively. 
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office package 
  • Clean driving licence 
The position is full-time, temporary for 12 months, maternity cover with a trial period of three months.
