CALL FOR “Creative Minds”: EVS opportunities in Tallinn

Tallinn Sports and Youth Department is an EVS coordinating organization. In 2018/2019 we will be coordinating 7 EVS services in Tallinn for 11 months from September till August.

Kesklinna youth center is a modern youth center with big seminar rooms, equipment and office spaces for youth organizations. Kesklinna youth center is not a typical youth center, it is meant for active youngsters, who wish to take the initiative and organize events and take part in activities, clubs and volunteering offered by the youth center. Kesklinna youth center is offering youngsters opportunities for non-formal education and participation in society.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Volunteer should have sense of self-initiative and be self-confident to communicate with different youngsters, plan and lead different activities, for example language courses and cultural events for youngsters. Volunteer also should be able to introduce her/his culture and promote voluntary work. Important is to be motivated, adaptive and a good team-worker. Youth Centre is mainly targeted to older youngsters which means that it is possible to plan and implement bigger co-operation projects and activities. Good English is required.

Kristiine youth centre is open to all from 7–26 years of age in order to provide a wide range of opportunities for recreation and for developing activities. In Kristiine youth centre guests have an opportunity to communicate, play different popular games, acquire useful information, to do their homeworks and get help and advice from youth workers. In addition youth centre organizes different kinds of activities, events, workshops and clubs. In the planning and implementation of its activities youth centre supports youth initiative and follows the principles of non-formal learning. Some of the non-formal activities are held together with schools. Youngsters can improve their initiative skills by developing their own ideas into actual events. If they wish, they can also use youth workers advice and help. Kristiine youth centre also provides opportunity to rent rooms and multimedia equipment.

 

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Open for volunteers with different experiences and skills! Volunteer should be open-minded, helpful, patient and tolerant person. It would be added value if the volunteer has a hobby or interest in multi-media, photography, movie making, IT, graphical design, cooking etc. Volunteer should be able to lead language courses and help to organize and run the international movie club activities. Good English is required.

The main activities of the youth center are: organizing and developing youth work in Mustamäe district, increase the interest of children and youngsters in taking active part in social life and processes around them, but also to give youngsters a place to meet and spend time with friends. Meeting in the youth center they will have the opportunity to gain new skills, develop international relations through non-formal learning and projects for and with young people. As all the other youth centres in Tallinn, there are some crime and drug abuse prevention, and co-operation with specialists who work with children and youngsters – teachers, social workers, police etc. Our previous volunteers have started classes of their national language, and also creative and art workshops. They have been organizing events for example cultural nights with other volunteers who are in Estonia, or helping youth workers with organizing events for young people in youth centre and outside as well. They have helped to create a plan for youth camps and helped to carry out activities. Also our volunteers have been in the open part of the youth centre, communicating, playing and spending time with young people who visit our center. What volunteers do in Mustamäe Open Youth Centre also comes from their personal hobbies, for example, one volunteer enjoyed photography and organized photo activities for youth and also exhibition with the photos they took. New creative ideas and sporty activities are all welcome.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Volunteer should be open minded, good at communicating and working with children and youngsters. We expect volunteer to organize activities, to be dynamic, adaptive and open to new ideas. Good English is required. Knowledge of Russian language will give plus points.

Haabersti Youth Center takes interest in children and youth for taking active part in social life and processes around, for spending time with friends, getting new skills, developing international relationships through non-formal learning and projects for and with young people. The youth center is interested in the prevention of violence, alcoholism and drug addiction among youngsters of district Haabersti.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Volunteer should be motivated, cheerful, patient, active communicator, good organizer, correct in her/his work, accurate, creative and flexible. It would be good if volunteer has hobbies which would give a chance to lead regular activities in the youth center (art, music, acting etc). It is also possible to collaborate with schools to run workshops and other activities related to volunteer´s skills. In addition volunteer will be involved in organizing bigger events for youngsters. Good English is required. Russian will give plus points.

  • Pääsküla Youth Center

Pääsküla Youth Center is open to all kinds of youngsters aged between 7–26 years. Pääsküla youth center provides them with the biggest indoor skate park in Tallinn, offering an opportunity to use BMX, scooters and skates. Besides, Pääsküla has a DJ club with full equipment to study and play electronic music, and a huge open space for weekly acting classes, music commitees, cooking and handicraft workshops. In addition, youngsters can can participate in games like Jeopardy or other thematical quizes, organized in Pääsküla.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Volunteer should be active, interested in organizing different activities, open-minded and friendly. We are open for volunteers with very different experiences and skills. Good English is required.

Valdeku youth center is warm, yellow and fun! We are situated in Nõmme, beautiful green part of Tallinn where parks, birds squirrels and fresh air are free for everyone! Our youth center had a new beginning in 2017 – we moved to the freshly renovated building and changed our name to „Valdeku noortekeskus”. Now we feel that we are settled in and ready for volunteers! We have two big rooms, Playstation 4, board games, computers, table tennis, foosball and a great attitude. We offer different workshops – ceramics, silk painting, arts and crafts, cooking classes. Our main focuses are environment, art and wild life. Most of our clients are between 8 and 14 years – they embody unstoppable energy that needs your attention.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

Someone who likes kids, speaks English (Russian language would also be beneficial), is physically active, likes animals and bad weather. Great sense of humour and cooking skill might also come in handy. Our volunteer could plan and lead different activities like language lessons, workshops, cultural evenings and sport related events and of course spend time with our youngsters.

Põhja- Tallinn Youth Center is youthful and modern youth center, where we provide a wide range of opportunities for recreation and for developing activities. Our main activities include info technology, different styles of dancing classes, sports, music, crafting, board games, chess and other communicational activities and events based on open participation. Põhja- Tallinn Youth Center is open to all young people at the age of 7–26 years. Põhja- Tallinn Youth Center supports initiative and the ideas that young people provide and follows the principles of non-formal learning.

Preferred profile of the volunteer:

A volunteer should be active, open- minded and tolerant person, who has the courage to make contact with young people and plan and lead different activities. A good candidate for a voluntary service at our youth center should have some kind of hobby, which he/she can introduce to the young people. It would be added value if the volunteer has a hobby or interest in for example music and musical instruments, multimedia, graphical designs, technology or extreme sports. Volunteer should be able to lead language courses and help to organize and run cultural programs for the young. Good English is required and Russian language recommended.
